Partridge in a pear tree

Toot toot! DCM have asked me to be guest designer for the next 2 weeks - I was so excited. Daft of me to take this on during the 'silly season' - endless concerts and rehearsals - but I thought it might keep me sane!

My card is on their theme of birds (tweet, tweet). I have used an image from the internet.

Tidings of great joy

The image is from Flickr.

Inks : DI Antique Linen, Frayed Burlap and Aged mahogany; Brilliance Pearlescent Crimson, Coffee Bean and Cosmic Copper

Christmas Eve

The DCM challenge is entitled hanging up your stocking. This image is from the internet. I accidentally ripped the background of my 1st attempt, which was, of course, much better than this one, and a better size.

Inks : DI Peeled Paint, Shabby Shutters and Antique Linen; Adirondack Sunshine Yellow and Caramel; Glimmer Mist Walnut Gold

Extras : flower punches; red seed beads

Haute Couture

The TMTA challenge is on headwear. I think this is a great hat! I have opted for quick and easy on this atc - just sponging, stamping and a spritz with glimmer mist.

You still have until Thursday to join in my challenge - see the 10,000 hits entry.

Multi tasking

The Saturday Stamper challenge was so multi faceted it should have been hard, and I think I might have groaned when I read it. But after finding this image on Cora's blog, it all came together quite quickly. So, I had to include friends, buttons, button wisdom, diamonds, and chalk inks.

I cheated on the buttons as there are some on the girl's coat. The diamonds are stamped on very subtly. I decided to name the dog Buttons, and then base my saying around him. It seemed appropriate as they are pulling thread.

---

Stamps : HA snowflakes; MSE Friends Always

Inks : Fluid Chalk Olive Pastel, French Blue, Blue Iris and Lime Pastel; Versamark Pen

Extras : Seafoam white EP; computer text on tracing paper

Song without words

The DCM challenge uses the above title - in other words, we have to portray a song without referring to the words on the card. This one is very easy to guess - as usual I've been humming away whilst creating. I've used the November 4 sketch from 2Peas.

---

Stamps : Denami manger; PSX Ornate star 4

Inks : Adirondack Sunshine Yellow, Butterscotch and Caramel; ColorBox Frost White; StazOn Black; Versamark

Extras : SGme Clear EP; blue PP by Imaginisce; BB brown; Sticky Fixers

Copper Butterfly

Theme Thurday's challenge is to use chalk inks on your work. There is a good link on their site which leads to suggestions on chalk ink techniques. I have used one of them here; sponging the colours on, overstamping, and then layering with brilliance inked acetate. (Obviously, their instructions are more explicit!)---
Stamps : HA Old French Writing; Stampington Butterfly Girl

Inks : Fluid Chalk Olive Pastel, Yellow Ochre, Yellow Citrus and Burnt Sienna; Brilliance Cosmic Copper

Extras : Japanese copper paper; DCWV Green card; MM copper eyelets; Sequin Waste; Judikins Embossable Laminating sheet

Isa has set 2 challenges this week. Here are U for Urchin and V for Violin ( I've been waiting for weeks to do this one!!). The Wednesday Stamper theme is diamonds, which I have included on the violin atc.

---

10,000 hits challenge

10,000 hits is fast approaching. I can't believe how many of you come to visit me, and leave such praising comments. I really do appreciate it!

To celebrate this momentous occasion I would like to challenge you to use this vintage image in a piece of art work, and leave a link here.

At 10.30pm next Thursday (29th Nov) UK time I will close the challenge and draw a name out of the hat. The chosen name will receive a paperartsy stamp set. You will need to leave some way to contact you.

Ornate House

The TMTA theme is houses. As I didn't have a house stamp I had to think quite a bit. I was tempted to to something with the cube houses from Rotterdam, but got a bit stuck. So, I made up my own house after seeing the keyhole on an SA stamp.

Tagged time

Well, I had a wonderful time at the Hobbycrafts show today. I watched a brilliant demo of glimmer mists at BLine, so here is my take on them. Obviously they don't glimmer on the scan - one day I must get the hang of decent photography! I only bought 2 colours as I was running out of money. Christmas is soon... :-)

The tag fulfils the Saturday Stampers theme.

Getting Corrugated

This is the theme of DCM's challenge today. After spending about an hour looking for corrugated card (and I know I've got a lovely sheet of gold somewhere!) I discovered a box which I pulled apart and painted.

The flower stamp was inked with Marvy pens and spritzed with water before stamping.

Deck of Me, weeks 37 & 38

The prompt for week 37 was draw something. Once again, I turned to Mary Fleeson's work for inspiration. The Salt challenge for this week is from the hymn book so this will be appropriate for that too.

'Light of the world you came down in the darkness, opened my eyes, let me see'. I have been singing this song all the while I have been drawing, grateful for the reminder. 'Here I am to say that you're my God.'

---

Stamps : AudDesign

Inks : watercolour pencils; DI Weathered Wood; Archival Black

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The prompt for week 38 was I wonder..
I wonder at the tenaciousness of life. Even in extreme conditions there is evidence of living matter. Yesterday I noticed plants clinging to a wall that had benefitted from a dripping drainpipe. Survival is such a basic instinct.
When my daughter saw this card, she commented that it was just like the pub wall we pass regularly. It was easily recognisable!
Sunset Leaves
I have combined 2 challenges on this entry : Wednesday Stampers theme is leaves, and the Scrummy Stash Cafe has scalloped edges. The bottom edge IS straight; I find the scanner distorts the edge when I use brads!
The sky was just this colour as I walked home from school this evening, and lit up the trees to make them really orangey - it was beautiful!
---
Stamps : Time to Stamp ATC set 1; Stampington Butterfly Girl; Non Sequitur Greco-Roman Collage; Crafty Individuals 147
Inks : H2Os in Cherry Sorbet, Sunburst, Pink Arthurium, Cranberry and Gold Dust; VersaMagic Perfect Plumeria and Hint of Pesto; Fluid Chalk Yellow Ochre
Extras : PP by K&Co; Purple brads
Snow for Christmas
The DCM challenge on the theme of snowflakes (or snowmen) meant that I could use my metal embellishments. (I've had them for about 3 years).
To make the background paper I clear embossed snowflakes on black paper. I then smooshed on metallic rub-ons with my fingers, and wiped over with a tissue to make the embossing stand out. Very easy, and very effective! I used a glitter EP for the date, but you obviously have to see this irl to get the sparkle.
Look at the Birdie
The Gothic Arch theme for this week is birds. I have used an image from Cora's blog, not realising until I put in this link that she had as well!
Again, I have been playing with the gesso. I love the slightly opaque look it gives, and how it dulls down really bright colours.
Inks : DI Peeled Paint, Shabby Shutters and Broken China; VersaColor Lagoon Blue
Extras : Gesso; sheer ribbon; Cora's image
La Farfalla
The Saturday Stampers theme today is collage. Usually my Italian vocab is limited to musical terms, but I thought this title would go with the Italian labels on the atc.
Stamps : AudDesign; Stampington Butterfly Girl
Inks : Versamark; Archival Black; DI Aged Mahogany
Extras : Micro detail white EP; Prima flowers; PM sparkly black brad; peach netting; Butterfly image from Crafty Individuals Flowers and Butterflies pad; PP by Fancy Pants and Scenic Route; corner punch
Butterfly post
I have combined 2 challenges on this piece. One from DCM to use hand cut items, and the other from 4 x 4 Friday to use faux postage.
I have coloured the background, and then applied gesso. I have been meaning to play with this more extensively for a while now. Great fun! I forgot to put on my glasses when I cut the postage stamp out last night, and then found it really hard to focus when I had to drive to collect my daughter from a music rehearsal!! Will I ever learn!
Deck of Me, weeks 35& 36
Week 35's prompt was strength.
The lyrics are by Geoff Baker.
The prompt for week 36 was life is beautiful....
Life is a gift from God; a beautiful treasure which He delights in. Most of it is unnoticed or unappreciated, but there nevertheless.
I used the scraps from a previous project on autumn, and double stamped the tree to give it more depth.
