Ela

This is a photo from Leni's site. She's having a little holiday draw on Monday.

Here's the link if you want to look : http://crealeni.blogspot.com/2007/07/ferien-verlosung-vacation-draw.html

I'm really pleased to use this harlequin paper, as I've had it for ages, and never known how to use it. It seemed to match the photo really well. Yellow is a colour I rarely use. The word says adorable.

Swinging Sixties

The 60s was the theme for the DCM Midweek challenge. I have based my card on a dress design, though I'm not sure who it was by. The flower power style paper seemed to match. I tried to think of a witty greeting using the word model, but failed. Some of my pupils entered the fun, and suggested this one instead.

Inks : DI - black soot, computer generated text

Extras : images of Twiggy from the internet; black, red & yellow paper; flower paper from Provocraft; PM flower brads

Ribbon Collector

I've made this card for the Creative !deas challenge to use brown and blue. The buttons, (copy of) thread card, and ribbon are all vintage items from my MIL's box. I'm so glad I didn't throw everything away all those years ago.

Here's the story :
Miranda's youngest sister was born on Easter day. She was promptly nicknamed Chick - in fact nobody really remembers her real name. She was respected for her ability to alter clothes at lightening speed. In the days of handstitching this was a valued accomplishment indeed. If you ever needed a scrap of ribbon to match a dress, Chick would delve into her sewing chest to search through her collection.

Inks : DI antique linen, walnut stain; VersaMagic Magnolia Bud

Extras : vellum glue; image from Rein's site; PP by Vanessa Arbuthnot; DCWV brown and blue card; Vintage items from own collection; prima flower; tiny button from PaperMania.

Deck of Me, week 10

Week 10's dare was note to self.
I must write to Ali Cripps in Canada, whom I've not contacted for over a year. She is special to me because she prayed me into faith at music college. It's her birthday this week.

I'm rather pleased with the background on this card - a happy accident. I had been brayering for another project, and used stamp cleaner on the brayer, which I rolled on some paper. The colours became quite watered down and blended together really well. I would normally throw this away, but loved the effect.

Heavenly Host

Another card for Isa's H challenge. We could add option a) at least 4 patterned papers, and b) some metal. There was a list of H words we couldn't use as well.

I started with 2 BG sublime papers and built the colours up from there. It was only when I stepped back to look at it that I realised how Christmassy it is!

In half term Steve and I went to see a Burne-Jones exhibition at Birmingham art gallery. This angel reminds me of his work, which I love. He always paints long necks, and faces on an angle, with a prominent chin (the model being his wife).

Text!

The DCM theme this weekend is to include text in your work. I've made this as a silver wedding anniversary card for some friends - the grey is silver!!
Again you cannot see, because of the scan, but the frame has been diamond glazed, and is therefore raised and shiny (and a little cracked because I tried to work with it before it was fully set!).
I used sponging and watercolouring techniques using purple and blue from the Bouquet set of colours

H for Hope

This is the 3rd of my ladies of virtue, made for Isa's alphabet challenge.

I then assembled them all together to make one card. Because the image below is a photo, not scanned, the colours have gone much brighter. The above is truer to the original.

For materials see G for Grace. I have also added Versacolor raspberry ink.

Cartoon Crazy

The DCM midweek challenge is :
We'd like you to have a go at making a cartoon inspired card! You could use the colours and patterns (eg Minnie Mouse's dress would mean a black, white and red spotty card; Winnie the Pooh red and um, honey coloured) or symbolic (eg using an anchor inspired by Popeye)

My card is based on the cover of a Tom and Jerry video - the increasing green circles, and the U rating. The bunny is my take on Bugs Bunny. Took a while to get this as I wanted - there are many painted rejects in the bin!!

Stamps : HA alphabet, Old French Writing; Stampington Roller Bunny

Inks : Adirondack red pepper; Archival black; DI peeled paint

Extras : PP by K&Co, Fancy Pants, & Scenic Route; blender pen

G for gems

Here's another card for Isa's alphabet challenge. The colours are much brighter irl, but I think I prefer them on here. The background is sprayed, and the pink colour-washed with the same inks. The stems are hand doodled.

Stamps : AudDesign corner and flower; HA alphabet

Inks : DI dusty concord; Sticky fingers pink, lilac & blackberry; white gel pen

Extras : ribbon, domed stickers, crystal gems

Deck of Me, week 9

Beady Eyed

The DCM challenge was timely for me, in that I wanted to make a girly card for my niece's birthday. We just had to use beads or sequins. Great to use a few of the thousand or so sequins from my packets - they'll probably last me for ever! I think you can just about see the glitter on the background paper.

Stamps : HA friendly greetings

Inks : DI dusty concord

Extras : tuttifrutti pp, purple ribbonand purple card flower all from Craftworkcards; Queen & Co sequins and tiny brads; Paper Cellar sequins; purple card; Ultrafine glitter; glue pen
